International Women's Day in poker, Part 1: GGPoker, FLIP offer live and online events

Tuesday, April 8, is International Women’s Day (IWD), and events celebrating the occasion are planned across the poker world. Among the festivities already underway is a week-long celebration hosted by online site GGPoker and one of the largest group’s supporting women in poker, Fantastic Ladies in Poker (FLiP).

FLiP, which was founded by Daiva Byrne in 2017, has partnered with GGPoker for more than a year, after GGPoker signed Byrne as an outreach ambassador last February. This week’s IWD celebration began with a series of daily private freerolls (password available for FLiP’s members via Facebook), and its highlight is a $50,000 guaranteed tournament on Tuesday. The event features a $25 buy-in and begins at 19:00 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

“FLIP Main Event with FLiP Streamers, Ambassadors, and moderators as bounties!” wrote Byrne in the Facebook group. “Let’s celebrate IWD and all our amazing members who #beatthebias at the poker tables!”

The event will feature 10 of those prominent streamers, ambassadors, and moderators — including Byrne herself — as bounty targets, each worth a $150 ticket into the GGMasters Overlay Edition, the $5 million guaranteed freezeout event GGPoker will host on March 20th.

Live FLiP event in England also included in IWD festivities

FLiP is also hosting a live poker event in the United Kingdom in association with GGPoker and as art of the ongoing International Women’s Day festivities. However, this live event won’t be held on Tuesday, so as to not compete against the online GGPoker/FLiP IWD tourney.

Instead, the live IWD event will take place on Sunday, March 13th, in Manchester, England. The event will be held at the Manchester235 casino and gets underway at 2:00 p.m. The event features a modest £60 buy-in, with a bonus thrown in by GGPoker for the tourney’s eventual winner, who will receive a $2,500 travel package to play in the 2022 WSOP Ladies Event this summer. The tourney is billed as FLiP’s “first ever community event.”

FLiP currently boasts over 5,600 members and is among the world’s largest organizations working to benefit women in poker. Ann-Roos Callens, Emilia Riot, and Suzie Williamson also serve as ambassadors for the online group, which also offers a Twitter presence in addition to its Facebook home.
